About the Opportunity

Burlington Berries is looking for 50 Farm Labourers to join its team. The Horticultural Labourers will assist the Burlington Berries management team in harvest supervision, operating machinery and undertaking labouring tasks within the irrigation team.

 

In your role as a Farm Labourer, your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • driving motor lorries or mechanical harvesters or forklifts
  • operating tractors with engine capacity of over 70 kW
  • undertaking minor maintenance of plant
  • supervising and coordinating a team of workers
  • recording detailed information on production and quality indicators
  • undertaking irrigation monitoring tasks and minor maintenance.

 

Work may also include picking and packing strawberries, raspberries and blackberries to the quality standards set by Burlington Berries management team. There may also be some general labourer duties including non-harvest tasks such as planting, pruning, weeding, canopy management, tunnel work/maintenance, irrigation and general horticultural duties.

 

The work is indoors and outdoors and will be physically demanding. Some heavy lifting is required, and many tasks involve reaching your hands above your head and/or bending over for long periods of time. This is a labour-intensive role and work can become repetitive.

 

You must be able to commit to 6 months minimum work, with work expected to commence in Spring (September/October) and end late autumn (May/Early June). Start dates will be staggered depending on production.

 

About You

Candidates must be motivated and willing to work at a quick pace, with accuracy. Candidates must be flexible with their work hours and be able to work weekends at short notice. Successful candidates will be required to start early in the mornings on sunrise in a range of weather conditions, working an average of 38 hours per week.

 

No previous experience is necessary.

 

About the Benefits

The successful candidate will be offered permanent full-time employment for a minimum of 6 months under the Horticulture Award. You will be paid a Level 3 hourly rate of $25.63 per hour.

 

All berry picking work will be paid under a piecerate system, NOT HOURLY. The piece rate will change daily in reflection of the job being undertaken and you will be guaranteed a daily minimum hourly rate under the piecerate system.

 

Potential to upskill to other positions is available and include but not limited to the following roles; Assistant Supervisor, Senior Supervisor and machinery operators.
