About Burlington Berries
Established in 2012, Burlington Berries (Burlington) is the largest family owned berry farm in Tasmania. Located 45 mins from Launceston and 2 hours from Hobart, they can be found just outside of the local town, Cressy.
A rapidly expanding horticultural enterprise, with 47 hectares of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries under production, Burlington is a busy place to be! Throughout the year they focus on planting, growing, and monitoring crops, and maintaining and sustaining the farm infrastructure. Come October, the crops are ready to be harvested, producing perfect berries up until late May. This is the busiest time of year for Burlington, and to meet harvesting needs they employ over 350 people including Australians, Working Holiday Makers, and participants of the Seasonal Worker Program.
About the Opportunity
Burlington has a new opportunity for a friendly and capable Facilities Caretaker to join their team in Cressy, TAS. This is a full-time role, with occasional weekend and on-call work required.
Reporting to the HR & Welfare Manager, this is a hands on role that will see you responsible for the general repairs, maintenance and inspections of Burlington's facilities, including their four residential sites.
These sites are home to approximately 200 new and returning employees - a mix of longterm staff, backpackers and individuals from the Seasonal Worker Program - and a key component of this position will be supporting these employees as they adjust to life in Tasmania. This could include airport transfers and check in/check out for new employees, providing education on the correct use of appliances (such as refrigerators) and ensuring that cleaning/general hygiene is maintained.
Your other responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Arranging regular accommodation inspections, ensuring that safety/sanitation regulations are being met;
- Actioning any repairs/maintenance requested by staff or identified through inspections;
- Managing inventory/equipment, completing stock takes and replacing damaged items as required;
- Preventative maintenance, managing pests and general gardening/landscaping duties; and
- Ensuring accommodation inductions, facilities training and health/safety procedures are carried out effectively.
Please note: There may be potential to split this role in two, to accommodate a couple that would perform both the maintenance and employee support aspects of the role.
Burlington is open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, whether you have worked in a hostel/backpacker/accommodation environment, or have experience performing similar maintenance/handyperson tasks, either as a Caretaker/Groundskeeper or in your own home.
You'll be a "Jack of all Trades", good with a variety of tools and, a genuinely friendly and approachable individual.
Supporting a highly varied workforce, you'll be confident building relationships with stakeholders from all walks of life, able to relate to and effectively communicate with staff from a variety of cultures, where English is not their first language.
You'll be approachable and passionate about raising the bar in accommodation standards, with the initiative and drive to make change and come up with fresh ideas or solutions. Flexible, able to work outside your comfort zone, and open to learning new skills, you'll be able to remain calm under pressure and bring a patient approach to your work.
Able to think outside the box and with the strong time management skills needed to prioritise your own workload, you'll also need well-developed organisation skills.
The successful candidate must hold a current driver's license.
